It has been way too long since I have written for which I can only blame myself. I have had many thoughts that I have made a list of, but I have yet to take the time and use the diligence to make them complete posts. However, this post hopefully brings me back into the writing loop and will shed some light on current events.
The title Internet Beauty and Dating Twitter is something that has come from a barrage of posts I have seen on social media lately of girls “challenging” each other to post pictures that make them feel beautiful.
I take issue with this and even though I am a man I feel that my opinion on this matter probably belongs to more than just me.
Why has our society come to the point where girls have to make special posts about what make them feel beautiful?
Why has society become a place where “the normal” is 16 year olds getting pregnant and dating tips are passed down through anonymous Internet sources?
What happened to the days where men were just smart enough to know how to treat a woman, and where a guy being nice to a girl is always misconstrued as being hit on?
I personally have many friends that are girls and nothing is awkward, our friendship is simply that… Friendship. Some of them even have boyfriends, and guess what… The men are fine with us being friends!
I am tired of the societal norm being a never ending cycle of “post this is you feel beautiful,” “read this if you want to learn how to date,” and “why guys and girls cannot be friends.”
I do have to agree that dating has become something almost irrelevant. Our technologically dependent society has turned knocking on the front door into an “I’m here” text. We have turned talking about our day face-to-face into a “what’s up” Facebook message.
Couples and those in between friendship and officially dating have turned what should be special moments into a non-stop mass of texts, tweets and Instagrams.
If you Google “Feel Beautiful” a plethora of results come up from quotes to beauty tips and even plastic surgery.
What happened to the days of just telling someone they look nice or they have a beautiful smile or nice shoes?
All of those sayings have become “d*** you’re hot” or “want to go somewhere alone?”
We as a society have become so shallow and so hurtful that women have to have special posts to remind them that they’re beautiful.
I’m sure this post seems random at points, but if you have stuck through it this long then I hope you maybe feel a bit of sadness or at least guilt.
We need to return to the days of courtships and friendships and going to get coffee not being a “date.”
To all the girls: No matter what you feel you are always beautiful. No matter what happens you control your life. No matter what the society and the Internet say you are perfect just the way you are.
To all the guys: You can compliment a girl without being creepy. You can be friends without emotional attachment. You can be the gentleman and the Godly leader that every girl wants and needs.
I am always open to comments, discussions and coffee.
You know where to find me…
